As a regular visitor of Australia and having an Australian girlfriend, I must say that his accent was flawless!
The shrimp on the barbie being the absolute stereotypic phrase of course :D
As a fourth generation Australian I would say it was better than most attempts, quite broad and exaggerated, and of course, we never say shrimps - we call them prawns!

Saw the movie last night on TV, and I've seen it many times since 88. What an absolutely fantastic and timeless movie! Caine and Martin are at their best.
I would love to see them reprise their roles and make a sequel to this! There would be a lot of possibilities for story lines.
