Do you think that Hans was evil or just an opportunist?
I mean all he wanted was to become rich. Do you think he was evil or just misunderstood?

shareLOL!
What's the difference?
He was willing to kill thirty or more people to get what he wanted.
Yeah, I think he was evil.
Sure, he didn't take any pleasure in killing people. He wasn't a sadist. But he was a sociopath who didn't care how many people had to die for him to achieve his plan.
You got it. Was colonel Stuart from Die Hard 2 more sadistic than Hans?
shareevil opportunist
shareHans Gruber had a reasonably good thing going working with his brother Simon. But then Hans was estranged from his brother for his excessive violence... and greed. So Hans had gone his own way. Bottom line: Gruber needed money, to finance his own 'organization', and his expensive tastes. His 'anti-corporate' rhetoric against Nakatomi may be seen as right-wing / fascist xenophobia, and possibly an attempt to re-ingratiate himself with Simon. Jeff Bezos wanted to be rich, too. So he devoted himself for twenty-five years to developing a business model that would make him one of the wealthiest creatures in the universe. He's broken a few laws along the way, mostly corporate and business practice laws, in a variety of countries, but as far as we know he hasn't tried to kill or terrorize people. Jeff Bezos is not widely misunderstood. He wants to make lots and lots of money. This is clear. His business practices, plied over twenty-five years, have proven far more effective at influencing, manipulating, and even directing public policy, than any terrorist act short of 9/11. So evil or opportunistic, it doesn't really matter. Hans Gruber is simply... a lazy bastard.
