The BIGGEST GOOF of all!

Have just watched DEAD POOL and spotted the most obvious goof, not reported here. The character Gus Wheeler threatening to immolate himself, finally does go up in flames only to be 'saved' by Harry and two police officers who douse him with CARBON DIOXIDE gas from fire extinguishers!! Anybody who has attended fire safety drills will recall the possible excruciating effects of being exposed to this gas - rotting flesh, coma, convulsions and possibly death. No sane person would ever allow this fire repellent to come in contact with human flesh especially from the concentrated mixture found in fire extinguishers. Don't try this at home!!!

I'm watching this and just thought the same thing.

I'll have whatever you're having.

Rotting flesh? Convulsions? Get a grip.

I hope you are never assigned fire safety duties in any work place you may find yourself employed. Having worked in Aged Care facilities where fire safety education is a priority, the dangers of human exposure to this fire extinguisher
were stressed repeatedly.Yes, the flesh literally rots from the bone if exposure is serious; yes, if inhaled, convulsions and worse can result.
Try putting your hand in 'dry ice' for a few seconds. Good luck!

Is finding yourself employed a bad thing?

It’s called “proofreading.” Educated people do that.

That scene was real, so you obviously don't have all of your facts straight.

There was really a stuntman on fire, and a fire extinguisher is how they really put out the fire on a burning stuntman (how else would they do it?). It is normally done off-camera, but in this case they simply did it on camera because it went along with the scene anyway. You didn't think that was CGI fire did you, in 1988 (lol)?

Burn scenes

Scenes in which someone is actually set on fire are among the most dangerous ever filmed. The stuntman wears several layers of protective clothing, including fire-resistant materials like asbestos. Special gloves and a hood cover the hands and head. In most burn scenes, the hood is clearly evident, though its appearance can be minimized by good editing. Inside the hood is a small breathing apparatus connected to a small oxygen tank. The performer is then coated in a specially prepared flammable gel. They are not simply doused in gasoline -- that would be suicidal. Before the burn is lit, multiple extinguishers and paramedics must be at the scene. The burn itself is carefully timed.

This isn't the biggest goof. The biggest goof is Harry throwing his Model 29 on the ground, then kicking it across the floor. I doubt he would have treated that particular pistol that way.

I was thinking, the above poster thinks just like me . . . then I realized it was my post from 2 years ago. Senility is great! You can read things for the first time over and over again!

reply

No the biggest goof is that the fumes from the gas aren't ignited by the flares.
