what kind of parent would let their baby sleeps alone
i really don't think anyone as a parent should leave their enfant sleeps alone in an environment intimidated by wild animals, dingos alike, with or without warning signs.

MIRANDA, WHOOOOOAAAAAAA!!!!!!!
"Yeah, but we thought about shooting them in an industrial space..." HAHAHHA!!
...
"Thats all."
Agreed, I just saw this movie and why make a movie about a dingo killing a baby?? They ran outta ideas the stupid idiots
shareDo you mean why make a movie based on a true event, which happened to be one of the most controversial events in Australian history? I think the answer is pretty self explanatory.
shareZing!
Introduce a little anarchy...Upset the established order...Well then everyone loses their minds!
Finally, thank you naebiegirl. About time someone showed some intelligence on this threat. Some people just see what they want to see, and dont realise it actually matters to some people. I am not even Australian yet I believe it was a heartwrenching and tragic event that deserved to be made into a film
shareI've read this whole thread many times - the original poster is a MORON... And for those who are STILL refusing to educate themselves on facts -which have been in the public domain for a LONG TIME - heres just a few.
On the night of August 17 1980 500+ campers were present at the Top Camping Area @ Uluru - it was a typically BUSY night. Less than 10m from the BBQ area where Lindy, Michael and Aidan (age 6) were having dinner with another family, Reagan - then aged 4 - was sleeping next to his sister when she was taken. At the time he was woken up by "something" walking over his back - a combination of his young age, the obvious effects of this trauma, and the then police policy not to use the statements of children under the age of ten were just some of the reasons why he was never given a chance to acurately describe what he had experienced. Both children witnessed enough to damage them for life - Reagan endured nightmares and "sleep talking" for many years - which was also witnessed by his babysitters and others who knew that this little boy could of easily been the "prey" - as were the six children who were attacked by dingo's in the two years before Azaria was taken AND in the case of Clinton Gage - aged 8 - who was killed by a dingo on Fraser Island in 2000...
Within minutes of hearing Lindy scream Azaria had been taken most of the entire population of holidaymakers - not one ever questioned what they saw with their own eyes - dropped what they were doing and started up the search parties - well before the police even got there. Most had never met the family, but had seen dingo's near the BBQ area that night - and a few heard dingo's growling just minutes before the tragedy. Several searchers and Aboriginal trackers followed the tracks leading from the tent and down towards the Rock. Azaria's very damaged clothes were found the following week - again by someone who had never known the family - 4km from the camp ground - near a dingo lair that had not been previously identified.
Evil Angels is based on the John Bryson book that was written while Lindy was in jail. No royalties - or much truth - from the book were directed at the Chamberlains themselves, and the rights to the movie were his to sell. Lindy had no say in what was written in the book, but was consulted by the production company on her experiences for athentication purposes.
Ignorance is bliss - but knowledge is power - and those who dont KNOW or have the brains to see the fact that a beautiful little girl was taken by a dingo and then the police bungling, media scrum and a nation of gossipers took it to the next horrible level only have themselves to blame. 30 years on, anyone who doesnt want to know the truth should just let their ignorance carry them under a bus. Lindy and her family are SURVIVORS of the biggest judicial stuff up in Australia's history, and when Azaria's death certificate is corrected in the new inquest later this year, there will be NO excuses for anyone to judge what they dont know, attack what they werent a part of or criticise a bloody gutsy woman for not bowing down when she was so very wrongly branded.
Personally, I have never met Lindy, but I am proud to count Reagan Chamberlain as my friend, and I could NOT look into his eyes - or have him in my home - knowing that I read this entire thread which is contaminated by such cruelty and silliness and then say I did nothing about it. If you want to stay dumb then fine - but dont leave your stupidity plastered on the net for people like my FRIEND to read and wonder why you are like that. Thank God he is strong enough to laugh at stupidity - I am getting there. But lets just think about what we're doing here people okay. This family has been through enough - this wasnt "just another Hollywood movie" story - this really happened - and it still hurts all inovlved EVERY DAY.
Oh, there you go, ruining another insane rant by people who don't know what they're talking about by introducing facts. I thought we'd talked about this.
Seriously, thank you very much for posting this info... not that any of the ranting loons will pay any attention, but still, thanks.
EXCUSE ME, YOU'RE THE ONE WHOSE STUPID BECAUSE AGAIN THE ORIGINAL POSTER ASKED WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU LEAVE YOUR CHILDREN UNATTENDED? SO ALL THAT STUFF YOU WROTE WAS WASTE OF TIME AND A WHOLE LOTTA B.S. FRANKLY.
WHEN YOU HAVE SMALL CHILDREN YOU DON'T LEAVE THEM ALONE OR UNATTENDED IN THE WILDERNESS WHERE THEY COULD BE EATEN BY WILD ANIMALS, THAT'S JUST PLAIN COMMON SENSE.
There was no precedent for children being harmed - hence it was thought to be safe. This is how they came to be convicted in the first place - as someone pointed out in another thread, despite forensic tests as well as the testimony of expert witnesses in dingo behaviour (such as ranger Derek Roff and Aboriginal blacktrackers) there was disbelief that a dingo could have carried out the act.
We've since seen other cases come to light such as a 9-year-old boy being killed on Fraser Island. The risk has come about because of people feeding the dingoes in those tourist areas, which they are no longer advised to do. Hindsight is a wonderful thing!
that would be like saying why would they make a movie about the planes flying into the world trade center :-/
shareThe baby wasnt alone she was sleeping with her older brother. Not the eldest the middle brother. I remember as Lindy was saying the blood was on the middle son. Although the brother was still asleep when it happened.
shareWe'd go camping in the Smokies and got left in tents quite a bit as kids. Bears were around, but...
I guess, as one person put it, that what's they were used to.
Foo
having recently returned from a camping trip near uluru i can assure you that the only thing that seems LIKELY to eat you is bugs bugs bugs. we didnt even SEE a dingo, let alone hear, notice or be approached by one. im thinking 20 years ago, when dingo attacks were even LESS known of or even suspected, putting your children to bed in a tent and moving several metres away was no more unreasonable than putting them to bed in your own home and going downstairs to the living room.
technically speaking any parent who is not holding their child in their own arms all damn night is 'letting their baby sleeps alone'. but that would be even weirder.

The parents were just not paying attention -- the threat did not occur to them until it was too late. Even pet dogs (large schnauzers, etc.) in US suburbs have been documented to suddenly grab small children by the head, then quickly carry them off as prey items. Dogs will grab anything small enough to be a prey animal, then will quickly immobilize and kill it.
The Chamberlains were negligent to the extent that they left an infant unattended in a tent in the wilderness, but they made a brief lapse of judgment, and dogs are very fast predators. The Chamberlains certainly did not deserve the treatment they received later on.
Maximus: Are you not entertained? Is this not why you are here?

Well considering the number of dingo attacks prior to the event think of you and your family lucky.
Getting sick and tired of listening to morons saying "well I was there a couple of months ago and nothing happened to me". Next time you hear of a shark attack off an Australian beach I'm sure there would be someone stupid enough to make such a comment. God save us from morons who disregard someone's misfortune becuase it didn't happen to THEM.

There was some debate as to whether it was taken by a wild dog or a semi domesticated dog. The Australian wild dog, known as a dingo, is the same kind of dog as the Carolina dog of the United States and the Jingo of Korea. It was originally a primitive dog that accompanied Aboriginals when they crossed what was then a land bridge from Asia to Australia. Being bigger and more aggressive than the local marsupial predators it gradually took over the mainland, leaving only Tasmania to the marsupial predators.
shareI thought the same thing as I watched the 20/20 special last night about the disappearance of Madeleine McCann... her parents left her and her siblings asleep while they went to dinner (50 yards away), though they were checking on them periodically. It boggles the mind; it mindles the bog.
Beware of the half truth. You may have gotten hold of the wrong half.
I think there is a difference between the Chamberlain and McCann cases. Yes the parents may have been the same distance away, but the Chamberlains could see their tent from where they were, so what they did does not strike me as irresponsible. The McCanns went to a different building and could not see what was going on where they left their kids.
You must be the change you seek in the world. -- Gandhi
Maybe they ran out of condoms.
shareThe baby wasn't alone, her brothers were in the same tent. And before you go to the obvious, "Well why didn't her brothers hear anything?," dingoes are predators. They know how to quietly stalk their prey. They also know how to kill something very quickly as well. And before you ask why it didn't go for the the boys, here's the obvious answer: the boys were bigger. The baby was an easier target.
I'm guessing that you don't have children. There are so many dangers in the world and as a parent, you do try to anticipate as many as possible, but some things you just don't know how to prepare for. You can't protect your child from a danger you aren't aware of. Sometimes you can do everything right and still something happens. The fact of the matter is that this DID happen to that poor woman's child and it is a tragedy.
OK I SEE YOU'RE DUMB AS WELL, WHY LEAVE THE BABY WITH HER YOUNGER BROTHERS? THEY WERE YOUNG TOO, THE POINT IS THE PARENTS WERE TOTALLY AT FAULT, AN ADULT SHOULD HAVE BEEN SUPERVISING THEM THE WHOLE TIME , HELL YOU'RE OUT IN THE WILDERNESS WHAT THE HELL DID YOU EXPECT WOULD HAPPEN AND I HOPE YOU DON'T HAVE ANY KIDS WITH YOUR LOGIC THOUGHT PROCESS.
shareOne of the boys felt something walk over his back but this was never allowed to come out at the trial.
shareSo what did you want them to have the baby strapped to them 24/7 everytime she has a nap or sleep, honestly its not like they put her in the tent then went off to the local pub for a meal, they could see the tent from where they were sitting Azaria was asleep in the tent with her brother she wasn't alone, this was just a tragedy and one that was compounded by a trial that never should have taken place.
"I'll set my course by you my northern star"
I think they had a camp set up, so technically she wasn't really far away from anyone. This could happen anywhere there is wildlife. So horrible to imagine. They had two other kids, so I don't know why police assumed she killed her baby. Three years after she was convicted, the baby's jacket was found near a dingo den.
