How did the Krites survive the first explosion at the burger place?

Came here to ask the same thing! Anyone have any theories? That was one big ass explosion,if I remember correctly.

The funny thing is, when Charlie hit them with the spaceship they died. It was a much smaller explosion. 

The force from Charlie crashing the ship into the giant Critter ball would've killed them....
