This USED to be one of my favourite's......bu t......

there are too many things in this movie which are very disturbing!!

When i was younger i loved this movie, but since only a few years ago, i heard the stories about the young boy gettin molested from the director.

I bought the dvd a while back and each time i watch it, i get more freaked out.

Did anyone notice Victor Salva'a cameo at the fairground?? Its when Casey wins the clown toy. Well, Salva is standing rite behind him (he's just staring at the kid). It scares the bajeezus outta me!!

I cant watch it now!!

reply

It is kinda of tainted isnt it, i saw this a kid and loved it and didnt see it again for 16 years, bought the dvd then read about the film history, its even worse when you see the kid in his underwear and bare ass hanging out but other than the sick story behind it its still a good little horror flick.

reply

Yeah, i totally agree with you!!

There's a part when one of the kids goes into the bathroom and the older brother (who's in the bathroom) yells at him to get out....the boys reply is "if you keep doin that, that thing is gonna fall off"....

It just shows that the director is a beast!!

But, it still is a creepy movie!!

reply

You're talking about the Older brothers. There's nothing wrong with what we see of them. They were both of mature age. Besides, you're talking about what they say to each other? I didn't like it, but again, there's nothing wrong with it. A guy living with 2 younger brothers would get a little stir-crazy and want to be with people his own age. It's only natural that he would insult them the way he does in this movie. The middle brother only uses maybe 2 times what the older brother says to him against him.

But yeah - what we see of the youngest boy, Casey, is really uncool.

I don't ever remember seeing Salva standing behind Casey at the carnival. That is indeed sick and weird.

I am betting Salva's way of staring at Casey was to eye Casey hungrily thinking how disturbing it would be to molest him.

Fun for him, but sick and disturbing for us.

What are the purposes of signatures!!..

That is exactly what I was about to mention.

So I aint holdin nuthin back & muthafu**er I got 5 on the 20 sack!

reply

Is that really true about the director molesting him? How was this found out? What happened to the director? Sorry I didn't even know about this!

reply

Look at the biography for Victor Silva. He was convicted for molesting the lead actor, Nathan Winters who was 12 years old at the time (Silva would have been nearly 30).

I refuse to watch any films by him, and quite frankly I find support for him disturbing (not saying you support him, but there are those that do).

reply

God, I just read about it...I'm really shocked/horrified, I can't believe people would still want to act in his movies knowing what he's done.

reply

If by "supporting" him, you mean- just want to watch his movies without getting lectures from a bunch of half-wits about how the director still wants to molest children 20 years after his ONE conviction... I have no problem watching his movies knowing what happened. And I was viciously abused as a child myself.

reply

As a victim of child abuse myself, I can continually say that i would never support his movies by giving money to them, or even watch them knowning what that man is capable of.

And forget the lecture, just know one fact: sexual preditors do not stop. They cannot. Just because he was convicted only once does not mean there was only one victim.

This film's history pisses me off, I want to enjoy this movie because there are some genuinely creepy parts but I just can't. *beep* you Salva!

God, that fairground scene is just creepy! He gives him that look up and down... I feel like I just watched a snuff film after seeing that part.

Just seen the movie and was about to post the same thing. Salva's cameo just popped into my eye... Creepy !

reply

And it's on the line where the kid says "never think straight". Sad irony.

reply

I just saw this movie for the 1st time. I didn't know anything about the director while watching it. The bathtub scene lingered a little too long and I thought it was strange but I thought nothing much of it. After I finished the film, I looked it up and read all about the director. CREEPY!

reply

I saw this when i was about 13, and even then i thought 'wtff, is the director a perv' during the bathroom scenes ;/

No, because I separate the work from the artist.

Unfortunately, most people are too happily-stupid and stubbornly-ignorant to affect a similar stance.

reply

Yeah but when the "artist" goes out of his way, affecting the quality of the work, to point out his sick fantasies time after time.... movie after movie...

I'd go as far as to speculate that Salva is still doing his molestation thing, given that his punishment was a breeze and that he's still making money from his sickening movies.

What an idiot.

salva did time in prison, lost hundreds of thousands of dollars, and had his career derailed..good..he had it coming..but wether or not this determines if his movies are good? polanski SKATED for drugging and raping a 13 year old girl and won a freakin' oscar!!! double standard--
