Can we agree that chucky looks scarier without his scars?

Saw it again and after a while i realized that chucky´s appearance was way more terrifying than in Bride of Chucky and Seed of chucky. Maybe its the whole innocent doll look that made him so much scarier.

Definantly. Perosonally I think he looked the scariest when he went to visit John about trying to get out of the dolls body

You got punted in the head? Not my problem

reply

Lol yeah he does look wayy creepier in mint condition, but i think it also attributes to the fact that the first three films were very sinister and chucky was intent on killing, in boc and soc he's made to be more of a comedian than just a straightforward killer.

Agreed!

-John, I love you.
-In the play. I know.
-I`m going to kiss you.
-No point.

I agree 100%, in the original as he spent more time in the body of that doll he maintained the body of the doll but started to take on features of a man, his face began to change, his eyebrows grew and his hair became greasy.

I learnt in my film studies class that American horrors use familiarity to provide scares. Like setting the film in a suburban neighbourhood or using common tools like kitchen knifes as weapons. Maybe that has something to do with Chucky's regualar appearance being creepier. We wouldn't expect an innocent looking doll to have the soul of a serial killer but it's a lot more obvious when you add a bunch of scars.

reply

Absolutely. I credit it to 2 strengths of the first 3 movies:

1. In the Child's Play movies, there was a clear contrast between the innocent-looking doll and Chucky's true nature (that was somewhat lost when he gained the scars in the later movies).

2. The Child's Play movies were clearly trying to make him the villain (while the focus was on Andy as the main character), whereas the Bride and Seed of Chucky movies made him the main character (who just happened to enjoy killing people along with his other activities).

I think he was most terrifying in Child's Play 2 and 3...I think because they put more muscles in his face.

Chucky isnt scary at all with those scars. I hated those scars from "Tiffany storyline" and when it was revealed in "Curse Of Chucky" I stopped watching it.
