The special effects were awesome.

The doll's body language and eye's movement were flawless and matched the dialog!

Don't believe me? watch the scene where Chucky went to John's place and said this dialog:
"You wanna know something??? It hurt, it hurt like a SOB and even bleed"

Apart from exceptions such as The Exorcist, horror films rarely are the recipients of Oscars or even nominations. I don't think The Shining, which IMO is far superior to this, picked up any nominations.🐭
