for this film it reads :

It is rumored that the "Good Guy Dolls" were based on the My Buddy dolls created by Hasbro. However, during an airing of the movie on the morning of January 7, 2007, AMC claimed the creator modeled the doll after the Cabbage Patch Kids. This was confirmed by an interview with the creator, Don Mancini, which was featured on the Seed of Chucky DVD.

Of course ( and IMPO ) it seems more like it was modeled after the
" My Buddy Doll " .

Here also was an interview with Fiona Dourif and she mentions the doll .

Does anyone else here think so as well
( or was it just a shear coincidence )  ?

A little too similar for me to believe it wasn't modeled after that. Thanks for sharing.

It definitely looks like a My Buddy doll. How strange!

I totally agree Amber_24  .

Also it always made me wonder and just a wild guess on this of course  .

It seemed like just after this movie was out the sales and commercials on the
" My Buddy Dolls " just didn't seem as main stream popular as it was in the previous years   .

Thanks Amber_24 for your reply  .

One of the original titles for the movie was Blood Buddy, once again pointing to the My Buddy dolls.

Whoa ! Really ?  

I guess that would have also dropped sales on this doll even faster
if that had been made the official film title
for this memorable child pal of the 1980's    .

I actually had a very rare My Buddy doll in the 80s and early 1990s. He had the brown hair AND the blue over alls and striped shirt. Eventually they quietly stopped selling that combination due to a certain movie (cough). The blue over alls were then only sold with the blond haired doll and a yellow and red striped shirt. Mine was a rarity.

My little brother actually thought he was Chucky and bashed his head off. I was only nine, he was three, I was devastated.

Oh No CountVladDracula   !!

That's so sad  were you able to have your parents fix
the head of the doll back onto the doll body
or was it too far damaged to fix ? 

That doll would have been be worth something by now
not that I'm an expert on doll collections  .

It does seem like a rare one from your description here
with the same clothing just like the Chucky Doll   .

Imagine if these My Buddy dolls had also talked like in the movie
and yours said to your little brother after the incident -
" I guess your not my friend till the end ! "   

Now that would have been a really creepy moment   .

Thanks CountVladDracula for sharing your My Buddy Doll story with us here
