In the second NCSU vs UNC game in this year's CWS, Hobbs Johnson shutout NCSU through 8 innings. He threw 5 pitches that WEREN'T a fastball, and his fastball is only 89-90mph. This is a testament to his location, not NCSU's batting abilites. ps I hate UNC.
I know he's an NCAA pitcher, but he's comparable to AA-AAA pitchers. It's about movement on your fastball and flirting with the corners, not a fully loaded arsenal. I'll use Tim Lincecum as an example, since he just threw a no-hitter. ..he has a four seam fastball that approaches 95mph, but he doesn't throw it; he throws his 88-89 mph two seam because it has a bit more movement to play with and flirt with corners (depending on how he holds it, it may move 10-20% more from pitch to pitch; he knows if it's moving more, but the batters don't). It's one pitch, but he murders with it (that said, Lincecum does have 2-3 more regular pitches -- just wanted to say how one pitcher does not necessarily mean it looks the same every time)
