Cult in certain circles, "The Game" actually played in Germany

In Germany this movie by now has Cult-Stauts in certain parts. There are even Groups playing "The Game", or "Jugger", in an half-official League. The Weapons are padded of course. ;o)

In Oregon, outside of Portland, there's a trio of groups who play; each has three to four teams. I've seen the games; played in parking garages, after closing hours, and using a foam-rubber "dog skull" and an array of PVC weapons (covered in padding), they are remarkably fun to watch. The 'stones' used for the counting are replaced with ball bearings (easier to collect, and cheap to lose).

Folks in the SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism) also play a version (in full armor with blunt rattan weapons, of course). We call it "dog ball", but instead of putting the skull on a spike, we put it (actually a modified nerf football) into a milk crate.

We Jug in Brisbane Australia also. http://www.uq.net.au/~zzahorst/jugging.html

Yes the SCA play a version, but like most of what they attempt, their version just is not the same. It is just like pretending to be serious re-enacters with wooden and foam weapons. Nearly right, but why bother? ? ? ? ?

In Brisbane Australia we play it properly every other Sunday. Yes we use foam Weapons - But then we are playing a game from a movie, not seriously trying to portray a historical period.

By the way Team-foamy rocked on the feild today- I have the bruises to prove how well they hit.

Just an update to the info above the aussie Juggers have now increased with teams forming in melbourne in addition to the Brisbane teams. Also there is now a new web address for australian jugging at www.jugger.org.au (now that is much easier to remember than our old one above).

Even more information - beyond the German, American and Australian players there are also rumours of some players in universities in the UK.

In Ribe, Denmark it's called Skullfight.. and it' too cool to watch. Only boys are allowed to play :p http://skullfight.ripen.dk/billeder/2006/index.htm

I've got to say thats the coolest thing I've heard in a long time. Next people will be staging the chase sequence in The Road Warrior.

I'm playing Jugger in a German team (from Oldenburg) myself.

There's a good explanation written in english on how 'real life' Jugger evolved and how it is now played in Germany here:

There's also an online manga about German Jugger players:

It's in German but maybe you can have some fun with it anyway.

On the latest pages the characters are actually discussing the movie and one says "Rutger Hauer had better movies". ;)

My Rutger Hauer favorites are BLADE RUNNER, THE HITCHER, FLESH+BLOOD, LADYHAWKE....as well as THE BLOOD OF HEROES....

I just saw an email for Wasteland Weekend 2015, apparently Jugger is listed as a feature event....http://wastelandweekend.com/about/
