Midler is Funny but Tomlin is ANNOYING

I've seen movies with Lily Tomlin and it's always the same thing; over exaggerated hand gestures, skipping and over dramatizing her lines. Notice the scenes in the bathroom, when the four step off the elevator and at the end when she leaves the hotel (to name a few). I thought it was intentional in Shrinking Woman but she "performed" the same way in 9 to 5 and Big Business. Just because she was funny doing her "one ringy dingy" on Laugh In does not mean she knows how to act ... and she doesn't.

Midler on the other hand is great as usual and the hitting the guy for the cab was hilarious!

I must respectfully disagree; I thought Tomlin handled it with beauty and grace and humor. In fact, I enjoyed her characters the most -- other than when Bette Midler sang, I loved that part!
