A nothing movie

I am seeing it again for the first time since 1988. Not so charming or as inventive as some people think it is. Many of the scenes made no sense and seemed thrown in for the oddball effect. The casting was great, however. I love all these actors but I wasn't exactly impressed with the way Tim Burton used them. The story plays by its own rules and that may be why some people think it's an 80's classic. It at least shows Burton at a time when he cared about the images he was putting on the screen as opposed to all of his latter-day work.

Did you know that there is a sequel to Beetlejuice being made?

Really looking forward to it. Will any original cast be in it?

I couldn't agree with you more, Metatron1970.

Thanks!

Sure thing!

I totally disagree. It is a lot of fun and genuinely entertaining. Personally, I really liked the way Burton directed the film and the way he used the actors.

I have only thought it was ok, even at the height of it's popularity.

reply

I disagree. This is a really entertaining and funny film.

It's part of Burton very best movies when he was on top of his game. Beetlejuice, Batman and Edward Scissorhands.

The last 20 years of his career is him pathetically trying to get back to that magical era.

I remembered sorta liking it when I saw it in the theaters. I thought it was a 7/10 back then. On a rewatch, I give it a 2/10. It is a bad movie with assorted shiny bits and one or two decent gags. Burton has 2.5 OK movies and Beetlejuice & Batman are not among them.
