Why did Adam need Barbara to drive him to the store?

I'm sure this has been asked a thousand times before, but I can't think of a reason that he'd need her to drive unless his license expired, it was suspended, or he never had one to begin with. It seems really random, though I understand there had to be an excuse for them both to go out so they'd die together.

I reckon they want to spend every minute of their vacation together. But why did they use the car in the first place (apart from being able to have a car crash)? It's a sunny day, and the long shots of the town show it's only a short distance between the house and the shop -- they could have easily walked.

reply

why does the man always have to drive out of a hetero couple? it's not actually a big deal, nor does it raise eyebrows if the woman drives. someone had to wait outside while the other goes and gets stuff from the store. most people think nothing of it whoever drives

reply

This has nothing to do with gender roles. It's just if Adam's the only one that needs something in town, why couldn't he drive himself?

reply

he knows what he wants to get, it's easier for him to jump out, pay and get back in without needing to park, walk etc. drop off and pick up saves time with quick shopping

reply

But it's not that Barbara just stops on the street to let him out. She does park the car -- actually she stops on an area in front of the shop. He could have done that himself, too, without loosing time.

By the way, it's their own shop, so he does not pay.

don't kbow then. maybe she wanted to get out of the house or they wanted to be together all the time in their recently married bliss

My thoughts exactly.

There are plenty of married couples that do almost everything together, and it appears the Maitlands are one of those couples.

On days my wife and I do not work, we're together pretty much every minute unless I'm doing yard work or under the hood of my car.

If I tell my wife I'm going to Home Depot for instance, she's in the car faster than the dog is. If we were the Maitlands, we would have made that errand together although I've always done the driving no matter which car we use.

It is bad to drink Jobus rum. Very bad.

Maybe Adam just loves his wife and her presence. Or... maybe he knew he was going to crash in the bridge and wanted Barbara to go down with him. The latter was a joke.

reply

Maybe he wanted to spend time with his wife.
