Something strange...coincidence?

In this movie, Adam and Barbara's last name is Maitland. They are killed in a car accident and are not aware that they are dead until somewhat later. In the 1971 film "Tales From the Crypt", the 2nd segment is about a man named Carl Maitland who is killed in a car accident, but isn't aware that he is dead until later. In the 90s TV show "Are You Afraid of the Dark", there is an episode called "The Tale of the Dream Girl" which is about a boy who was killed in a car accident with his girlfriend, Donna Maitland, but doesn't discover that he is dead until the end of the episode.

Is this pure coincidence? I find it very strange that in 3 different plots, people with the surname of Maitland are killed in car accidents and don't realize they are dead at first. I'm assuming it IS a coincidence, but a very weird one at that, unless someone else is aware of something that I'm not? I looked up the surname of "Maitland" and it doesn't seem to have any symbolic meaning to the afterlife or anything like that.
