I'm interested to know what is the style of artwork that Deetz's incorporated into their home architecture and interior design. Were they known as modern abstract, art-nouveou, avant-garde or postmodernism?

Definitely! I'd add abstract and contemporary. There are also elements of Tim Burton's signature German Expressionist-inspired style. The house's exterior looks postmodern.

It was a real art movement that was huge in 80's NYC (e.g. Jean Michael Basquiat) there was an actual furniture exhibition in 1981 called Mobile Infinito that looks like a lot of the furniture in the film, and I have it on good authority that the pieces were bought up by psuedo-intellectual poseurs.
