What is this movie really rated?
IMDB says it's rated PG, but I just watched the DVD and there are scenes with language you'd be hard pressed to find in a PG-13 movie, let alone PG. Did I watch some kind of uncensored version?

shareMy DVD (WHV 11785) says PG.

Well for example one scene I'm referring to has Beetlejuice saying "nice f--king model." I've never heard that language in a PG movie.
shareThe rules for each rating are listed here:
http://www.mpaa.org/ratings/what-each-rating-means
Note the sentence: "There may be some profanity and some depictions of violence or brief nudity."
Remember, PG is not G, which is the rating that would not have the f-word.

Randir, watch Spaceballs or Short Circuit 2. Both PG movies. Both have the F word. The MPAA used to be a lot more lenient back then.
shareAlright, thanks for the explanations.
shareRemember that while Pg-13 was around now, it still was sorta new. Quite a few films got to slide past the rating of PG-13.
shareback in the 80's pg was different. these days it'd probably be rated pg-13

A lot of PG rated movies back in the 80s would have been PG-13 today. Even ET would have been PG-13 just for the language alone. Penis breath wouldn't slide in PG rated movie today.
The same thing can be said about G rated movies back in the 80s. A lot of G rated movies would have been PG. All Dogs Go To Heaven for example! No way that would have been G today.
No it's backward. Many movies that would have been rated R are now PG-13. Why in the world was The Changeling rated R for? A death scene of a boy in a tub. Some light scares, a mystery, and barely any language? Would rated PG maybe PG-13 today. Suicide Squad would be Rated R today. Jurassic World would have been rated R for the gore 35 years ago. No, we're softer on the ratings today. And introducing younger and younger kids to foul language. All the new Transformer movies would have been rated R for their language alone, forget the violence. We barely have any rated G movie anymore. Disney has their movies rated with a bit more scrutiny just to be safe it seems like. Disney movies are not all rated G like they used to be. And we did not rate movies based on 'tobacco use' of all things either. Give me a break. That's about the only thing added in today's society on movie ratings.
3rd generation American from a long line of Gottscheers... it was Drandul, dude!
Airplane is rated PG, and there's a topless woman in it.
shareJaws was also rated PG, and there's lots of gory stuff (well for the time anyway it was gory) so it just shows how much more was allowed in PG back then.

You have many question, Mr Sparkle. I send you premium -- answer question, hundred percent!
I think I read somewhere the topless woman was to ensure an R rating but it still got a PG. Drug use, swearing, obligatory breast shot, innuendo, violence, several suicides... yeah, that was PG material once.
shareLanguage? Who cares? Kids cuss. Get over it. There are some pretty intense special effects that could frighten a smaller child, but I think PG is correct.
shareYes it is rated PG. I still have the VHS copy.
I saw it in theatres. Aww, feel so old!
I don't think the OP is offended, just puzzled because language like that is unheard of in PG movies these days. You don't even hear f-bombs that much in PG-13 movies anymore.
