Anyone notice how the men of Beetlejuice all seem to talk to themselves?

Adam Maitland, Beetlejuice, Charles Deetze Adam's uncle Bill, and Maxie Dean all are seen briefly talking to themselves.

Oh, and not to be outdone, honorably mentioned;
Delia Deetz does have a small scene where she talks to herself, saying "A little gasoline, a blowtorch, no problem."

Anyone notice how all the males in the have one scene where they talk to themselves? They do talk to themselves briefly. Case in point, Adam Maitland. When we first meet him, Barbara hasn't been introduced yet, he's alone in the attic finding a spider on the model he's been working on. He's alone remember that people, and he found a spider. He picks up the spider and says out loud:

"Now, that's a big fellow whoa!"

Uhm, who is he talking to again?
Longest mention would be Adam's uncle Old Bill. Later on, Barbara and Adam get in the car and go for a drive down the block and we meet Adam's uncle Old Bill who's sitting outside their family hardware store. Bill is a barber and his shop is next to Adam's, and he starts up a conversation, as Adam runs inside. He just sits there talking to himself about a client he once had Barbara waits in the car. Yes, Barbara could have gotten out of the car and talked a little to Bill herself, it wouldn't have killed her. Meanwhile, Old Bill says, "I took those scissors to him so fast---" and Adam runs out saying "See you later Uncle!" Then he just says right...as Barbara drives away, he just goes back to his own conversation.

Beetlejuice. Michael Keaton Beetlejuice. We meet Beetlejuice off screen and out of focus. He's reading the newspaper and mentions the damn sandworms over and over again. He's reading the obituaries and comes across the picture of Adam and Barbara he says:
"Cute couple. Look nice and stupid too."
Most of his catchphrases are said out loud when

Jeffrey Jones AKA Charles

And yet again, with Charles on the floor. Delia turns her head and says;
"He likes it."
But to who? Who is she talking to?

I like how you're replying to your own posts in a thread about people talking to themselves. 😕

Anyway, in response to your questions about "who is he/she talikng to?", the answer is the audience.

It's common, if not totally ubiquitous, in films/TV/theatre for the characters to talk even when no one else is around (be it as a soliloquy, or just thinking out loud). If you were to treat it like real-life, any scene featuring only one character could be uncomfortably silent and/or boring for the audience.

If you're insinuating that talking to yourself is a sign of insanity, then I guess I'm crazy cause I talk to myself all the time. Though mainly cause I live alone. I suppose if I lived with someone else I'd probably not do it so much.
