A better question is: why don't I believe you?

My first question is how old are you?

25

Why? My younger sister doesn't like it and never has but she hates anything that is even just a little bit scary. I have told her this is a comedy not a scary movie but she refuses to accept it. She hates it. My parents took us all to see it when we were kids and she ran out at the first part she found creepy and refused to come back into the theater. lol Wimp

I agree it's definitely more comedic than your typical movie...precisely a 'black comedy'. I personally really enjoy this movie, but I first saw it a couple years ago; I was 19 - which took away some of the scare-factor. While it's intended as a black comedy, it definitely has some weird vibes, and creepy twists...

And to the OP who says he/she hates this movie - it's Tim Burton. The kooky-spooky style is his trademark. Corpse Bride? Nightmare Before Christmas? Edward Scissorhands? They're all produced of the same recipe. I agree his style is strange, but in a world of reboots, remakes, and book adaptations, it's a breath of fresh air.
Burton's films have always been somewhat polarizing for people. Like country music divides America, you seem to either like his work or hate it, and there's not much of a gray area!

It's funny you mention book adaptations in your post cause some of the most beloved movies of all time were based on books.
Gone with the Wind
The Wizard of Oz
Mary Poppins
2001 A Space Odyssey
A Clockwork Orange
The Godfather
One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest
First Blood
Die Hard
Forrest Gump
The Shawshank Redemption
And James Bond actually came from a book too.

I was disturbed by this movie too once. Then again I was 8.

Maybe you should be watching Disney movies..

PrincessChelseaX, you are a flake. You have always been a flake. If you insist on trolling people, do it on the Disney movie boards.

Perfect reply! (She)probably didn't catch your joke. ROTFLMAO. IMHO the film is exactly what one should expect from Tim Burton.

Im 25 years old... thankyou

reply

That's like 18 in present day maturity levels

Yeah, I hated it too. My husband loves it and he showed it to our 13 yr. old for the first time. She really liked it.

It is just way too contrived, bizarre and lurid for me. I didn't like Edward Scissorhands either. Just a bridge too far. But my daughters love Tim Burton, especially "The Nightmare Before Christmas".
