The Beach House

The Beach House where Barbara Hershey dies is set on the Atlantic shore, but the actual cottage used for filming in in Orange County, California. The actual beach house was Cottage 13, located in what is now Crystal Cove State Park, on California Highway 1 just to the south of Corona del Mar, a suburb of Newport Beach California. The cottage had fallen into disrepair over the years, but is now being completely restored to its movie decor and will serve as a museum and information center.

I got the impression that the beach house was not only filmed, but also set on the Pacific coast, seeing that was where Barbara Hershey's character lived, and it seemed the sun was setting over the water in that scene where she passes away. I don't think the director would miss that aspect if he had set it on the East coast.

You are correct.

It always made me a little disappointed that they did this...as a CA resident...I know that Crystal Cove is a little over 8 hours from SF, where Hilary lived. Why didn't they use Stinson Beach, or Bodega Bay, or Fort Bragg? Just a geography thing that I think only a CA resident would care about.
