I was 21 when this movie came out and I was working as an usher at a big multiplex. Out of all the films where I saw people coming out in tears - I think that this was the all time biggest. We used to stand at the doors and offer people tissues when they came out... The only movie that maybe came close was "Ghost" in 1990.
I think people really go to the movies to "feel"...
I don't think I could watch this film again, too many memories behind it for me. I used to watch it with my mum snuggled on the sofa with snacks. My mum passed away last year and that night when I came home from the hospital I picked up the remote to turn TV off & accidentally changed channel. Beaches was on & it was the scene where Wind Beneath My Wings is playing. Probably just a massive coincidence. I will watch it again one day, maybe snuggled up on the sofa with my daughter (have to wait a while she's only 2 lol). It's still my favourite film in the world.
Hi ns1610 - no I think it was your Mum taking over the remote then - it happens, to me happened with other things after my father passed away; I was at the right place at the right time for things I needed at those times the most - even though I was supposed to be elsewhere! yes those "mysterious" things do happen, but not by coincidence. And, yes I DO cry EVERY time I watch this movie: so full of feelings, truths, intricate details; connections, a pattern of life inimitable.
Thank you tildakovach, it means a lot that you took the time to write. Since writing that on the board nothing else has happened. I expected my mum to come to me I suppose but I haven't given up hope lol. My friends think im crazy but I do keep an eye out for little signs. Things keep getting moved around in our front room but not sure if it's mum or the invisible man who likes to pat my bottom...at least Itthink its a man lol. I probably sound bonkers to everyone now lol!
That movie was indeed on tv for a reason that night , perhaps a cheeky message from your mom :) I'm male pretty manly and beaches is one of the most endearing movies ever made , it's been a decade since I have seen it but its originality keeps it fresh in my mind , a great tale about love , life and ultimate friendship Peace mate ;)
