As someone who has lost a parent at a young age (I was barely 18) I can say it doesn't matter how much prep you have under your belt. When the time comes you don't know what to do. You don't know anything. My dad had stage four lung and brain cancer and only lasted six months after his diagnosis.
I described it as being 5 and lost at Wal-Mart. The day he passed away I couldn't have told you what my name was, even though we knew it was coming and had been preparing for it for months.
