Where is the full version?

I loved this movie when it was first shown in theaters. I saw it twice and could not wait for it to come out on video. Funny, I kept telling people about a scene when Hart Bochner is getting undressed in front of Colin Firth, takes his t-shirt off, wipes his arm pits with it and then smells it. The audience actually gasped in the theater with the sheer eroticizm of it. Then in the video version, the scene was completely gone. Other scenes were deleted as well. Leonard Maltin's guide cites that the movie was shortened by the Director for the video by 8 minutes, but they were crutial as far as I am concerned.

Does anyone out there in cyberspace have any clue as to if and when a full length and original cut would be coming out on DVD? In my opinion, it would be a GREAT Criterion Collection due to it's self-referencial film nature alone, not to mention the great noir value.

I remember the scene where Jack pulls off his shirt in front of Adrian, even though it was 18 years ago that I saw it. We recently hosted a film party to watch the DVD. Afterwards I was left wondering about what had happened to this movie, it did not connect the way the original did. The original was quite popular here in Seattle. Cutting out scenes 18 yrs later is not going to sell more copies.

"LOS ANGELES - Feb. 1, 2007 - For Immediate Release - A twisted tale of deceit, perversion and murder that reveals the darker side of the human psyche, the critically acclaimed Apartment Zero comes home to DVD for the first time ever - and for the first time in any home entertainment format in the original, uncut theatrical version - on Feb. 20th from Union Station Media (distributed by Anchor Bay Entertainment).

This taut, psycho-sexual thriller launched the stellar careers of screenplay writer David Koepp (the upcoming Indiana Jones 4, War of the Worlds, Spider-Man, Panic Room, The Lost World: Jurassic Park, Mission: Impossible, Jurassic Park) and actor Colin Firth (Bridget Jones' Diary, Love, Actually, Pride and Prejudice).

Digitally remastered and presented in enhanced Dolby Digital 5.1, with closed captioning, Apartment Zero is available for the first time ever on DVD and for the first time in any home entertainment format in the original, uncut theatrical version. Special features include commentary from director Martin Donovan, as well as commentary from writer/producer David Koepp and fellow director and Sundance associate Steven Soderbergh on filmmaking in the '80s, filmmaking today and on Apartment Zero, considered one of the most important independent films of its day.

In Apartment Zero, Adrian LeDuc (Firth) is arrogant, repressed and alone to the point of madness. A reclusive movie buff whose revival movie theatre is failing, he is forced to take in a boarder to occupy his dying - and insane - mother's room to help make rent on his large and expensive apartment. Enter Jack Carney (Hart Bochner, Anywhere But Here, Bulworth), a charismatic chameleon who quickly wins over the neighbors by providing each with their greatest needs.

As their friendship develops, the surrounding city of Buenos Aires is terrorized by a serial killer. Adrian suppresses his suspicions that Jack may be the murderer while fending off the suspicions of others that his mother's insanity may be hereditary. A subtly menacing building of suspense drives Apartment Zero to its shocking climax, capping off a most perverse and twisted tale.

Apartment Zero won the Critics Award and Special Jury Prize for co-writer-director Martin Donovan at the 1990 Cognac Festival du Film Policier and the Golden Space Needle Award for Best Film at the 1989 Seattle International Film Festival. Donovan was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at the 1989 Sundance Film Festival.

Independent distributor Union Station Media (USM), based in Los Angeles, Calif., releases titles theatrically and for the DVD, television, cable, VOD and electronic down-load markets. USM is a joint venture of Canada's Alliance Atlantis Motion Picture Distribution and Australia's Arclight Films.

Sensation!!!! Thanks for the tip-off, jg67. I've got a rather dodgy pirate DVD, bought in desperation, but being such an unsavoury type with absolutely no "family values" whatsoever, I want the uncut version. And tomorrow is the pre-order date!
