Just seen the theatrical version!

Wow! I knew there were six extra minutes in the theatrical version but I never suspected it could make such a difference.
I've been an "Apartment Zero" fanatic since I saw it first over 8 years ago, but it was on video without those six extra minutes.
Why was it cut in the first place is beyond me. The bond between Adrian and Jack has an extra step of familiarity. Jack undresses in front of him, takes off his T shirt, wipes his arm pits and smells it. All casually. The camera doesn't move. An every day scene. Wow! Adrian's mental state from the begining is tried with much more care and the steps are clearly defined.
I'm assuming that the DVD will include the original theatrical version, right?

I never saw the full theatrical version. I want to see it now!

I'm afraid you'll have to wait. The DVD floating around is like a pirate copy.
Terrible quality and no special features.

I saw that scene in the version available in Mexico. I saw it in the 80´s and I never thought that scene was removed from the video version for US. Actually, I saw this movie in video, never in a theater. The scene that you mentioned was always there. Hmmm.. interesting, isn´t?

I have a dvd copy of Apartment Zero and it does not have any extras and it does not have the scene mentioned above. I bought it from The Movie Locator -
[email protected] The running time is 114 minutes.
Both the dvd and vhs are available on Amazon.

Like I just mentioned in the other thread - the UK video release from 20/20 vision is the complete print, runs 120 mins...not on DVD and any copies floating around appear to be the US edited version...

I have what I suspect is a pirate US DVD copy --- 114 minutes, no special features and certainly no T-shirt scene. Any theories on why that scene might have been cut? In what is already a fairly long movie, another six minutes would not have tested the viewer's patience that much.

reply

Strangely enough the original version is longer but it feels shorter because those six minutes matter to the emotional build up

The above-mentioned scene is included in the version on YouTube. I just saw it last night.
