Apartment Zero is usually the "throwaway" number assigned to the manager's apartment. When there is a resident manager, it can be assumed that mail addressed to 123 Main Street Apt. 0 will automatically be put in the managers cubby, no matter what apartment is really is in.

If you look closely at the apartment door when Adrian first enters it, you can see
that a number has fallen off. The building isn't that large, so I've always thought
of it as Apartment 10. With Adrian being such a neatnik, I wonder why he didn't
fix it. The "Zero" in the title probably refers to its occupant.
