Thanks for rendering whole chunks of the movie incomprehensible to newcomers, or rather, those unfamiliar with their language.

The Aussie DVD (region 4) is like that. When the mayor comes out of the conference with his sidekick and talk in their language for several sentences, I had no idea what was being said, so I went back with the subtitles on and worked it out.

The Star Trek III DVD is like that also with the Klingons.

Have you got the subtitles switched on? I have them, but not all alien speak is translated.

I also watched it last night on Film4... I actually didn't need subtitles, not knowing what they say puts you in the humans' place.

I spent the last 6 months learning Newcomer just so I could watch it and understand what they were saying, as yes there were no subtitles.

I think it was time very well spent.

It's on film4 now, still no subtitles though :-(
