Jerry Goldsmith's Rejected Score

I think this is a really good movie, but I think it would have been a whole lot better if they used the original Jerry Goldsmith synth score.
Released on CD by Varese Sarabande in 2005.

C'mon 20'th Century Fox, 2008 20'th anniversary edition time.
Release it with both the rejected Goldsmith score and Curt Sobels score.
That would make my year.

Just saw this movie today and was suprised to hear about the Goldsmith score. It would be so kick ass to see that back in the movie.

Sometimes I can't believe how stupid some studios are.
Rejecting the score by one of the greatest composers ever and hiring some douche instead.

Goldsmith also did the score for the 2003 movie Timeline and it wound up getting replaced also, but also found it's way onto CD.

Seems like you are fan of the name only. Actually the soundtrack used on this film is great.

Come on guys. Jerry was one of the greats but he wasn't infallible. Maybe his music just didn't work in the film. When you're as prolific as he was, you're bound to turn out a dud here and here.

With that said, I never found it among Jerry's most listenable works anyway.

Synth music. Apparently the rejected it because it was "too weird".

EDIT: I've listened to the soundtrack and while it is a little weird I think it would have worked a lot better than the score they used. It had a very alien feeling about it which is what the film needed. Take away the make up on the aliens and all you had was a standard buddy cop film.

Both soundtracks are finally available in the same package. Intrada.com has it for sale, but order it quick because it's limited to 1200 copies.
