Hopefully it is just a rumor. I like Christopher Nolan, but this is not his kind of film by any means, and Akira should not be adapted to a Hollywood live-action film since it deals with very japanese things.
"Citizen Kane" fan, "Frozen" fan, and "Boyhood" fan. ;)
I hear he could be the producer of this movie.

With or without Nolan the movie is going to be weak. Unless some miracle happen.

sharePeaked me for a moment but then I realized Nolan can't really do action well. Akira deserves some epic action cinematography. Nolan does great drama but he's not an action director.
shareAlex Garland would be a good choice to direct. Nolan would only produce.
