This was Seagal's debut and, in my humble opinion, clearly his best film! It's not really a good thing when an actor's career only goes downhill from the beginning. But that's really what I think happened here. Don't get me wrong, in films like "Hard to Kill" and "Out for Justice", Seagal choreographed his fight scenes quite well and the films were watchable. But "Out for Justice", for example, was basically trash. His acting in that film, just embarrassing. Laurence Olivier he ain't! And don't even get me started on those later straight-to-video bombs he did. But, he did have this. Above the Law is a halfway decent action film.

While I like this, I love The Glimmer Man the most. So many slick one liners in that movie LMAO.

I agree, I love Seagal's first five movies, this one, Hard to Kill, Marked for Death, Out for Justice (the worst of the five) and Under Siege. Seriously what a cool time for action movies back then. I was 15 to 19 when those were made, the perfect age for action movies.

Watching it now for first time . Had previously seen various SS films like Under Sieges, Deadly Ground and Exec Decision (US2 and ED at the cinema) but never "Nico" (UK title). Definitely a superior hard edged 'real' action movie and looking at the director you can see why. No wonder Seagal became an action star right from the off

remember it being out and seeing pics in a film mag 'Flicks' of Seagal in the black vest/jeans with a machete thinking it look like a bad ass 18 rated action film like a Double Dragon or Street Fighter brought to life
