I love this movie 2 !! Cause I lived through that period & was exposed 2 the Draft 1966-71. Many of the cast members have gone on 2 have big careers. Sincerely, NoWhereMan

I am 66 yrs old...remember that time all too well...lost many friends and neighbors in that war...those that did come back were never the same...
This film touched my soul....

I dedicate this message to peace also........

In 1969, I was the same age as Kiefer's character in the movie. I had many of the same kinds of things happen to me then. This movie captures the times, the attitudes, the fun things and the conflicts very well.

Although the message was good, the acting wasn't bad and it succeeded in showing what it would have been like for many a small-town youth in that period (I was 8 years old in 1969), the movie overall itself completely failed to grab me and interest me in either the characters situations or the plot of the story. It fell completely flat and felt like a waste of a couple of hours.

I just finished watching "Steal This Movie" with Vince D'Nofrio about the life and times of Abbie Hoffmann. Much better movie and better acting as well.

I'm 16 and heavily against war and all that bad stuff and this was like my kind of film, you got to see two friends who are both somewhat hippies and one take the more philisophical hippie approach and the other get into drug and become one of those drug induced hippies

~ Hell yeah it's a gem. I luv this movie alot. I recently watched 1969 in my late twenties. The message of peace and showing how any war is pointless is so true & important.

Some of the scenes hit the sweet spot. And the cast is really quite impeccable. They make this go down real easy. Kiefer Sutherland did the thoughtful, soft-spoken type really well. Why Hollywood cast him repeatedly as a bad guy in later years I'll never know.
On another note - I just realise that Robert Downey Jr has been playing the same guy for a very long time - from Less Than Zero to Iron Man. Not that I mind.

Me neither. It's actually pretty cool when actors are given the opportunity to refine a character over many years as they themselves grow older and have different life experiences.
