...but I was actually disappointed in the show over all. I had read so much about it on the internet and there were so many fans here, but I was shocked at how shoddy it was done. The acting was terrible, the special effects looked like they were done on a computer in 5 minutes. Then again, it was an 80's tv show. The only character i liked was ironhorse. Im only through disk one, so maybe the show will get better and i'll shut up. peace

Actually there was a good lead cast and the acting was not bad and as far as special F/X well that is always criricized, in 20 years I am sure this guy's favorite shows of today will be looked down on by the kids of that generation. I think you can appreciate old and new shows but have to look at them with different eyes.

I thought the special effects were rather bad back in 1988, to be quite honest with you. It wasn't anywhere near Star Trek The Next Generation, that much was certain. Anyhow, it was a viable premise and an interesting show. It does indeed get better as the series progresses, so don't give up on it yet and reserve judgment until you have seen it all. There are interesting guest characters such as John Colicos that makes it worthy of your time, as well as cool tie ins with Grover's Mill from the Orson Well's radio broadcast of 1938, as well as appearances by Anne Robinson from the 1953 film. It isn't a perfect show, but it has it's moments that have made fans never forget it after 17 years of complete obscurity.

ok, so the show got a little better. I guess my thing was that i was holding it at too high of an expectation. The acting isn't bad, but it is still over done. and before you geezers get your air tubes in a bunch, im turning 18 in a month, and besides, not everyone needs to like a show that was around while they were alive.

Why exactly are you getting defensive? Honestly, I could care less whether you like the show or not. All I said was to not give up until you had watched it all. I mean, if you were interested to begin with, you should at least watch it all. Now that we have gotten that out of the way, it is easy to get high expectations of something if you weren't an original fan, having read what original fans have said for so long. Had we crossed paths before you ever got interested, I would be the first to tell you that it wasn't the greatest show on Earth, but simply memorable to it's fans.

Exactly! IF the show wasnt that bad, then none of us would be here look at the boards. I m almost done with the 1st season, and i am so happy that it did not have to buy the bootlegged copy from ebay! The season get better by the 6th disc! Im looking forward to the 2nd season, then the 3rd! Anyone know when the other 2 seasons are going to be released?

Jason Argonauts and Crynbr, sorry,I wasnt aiming that towards you. The first couple of guys who replyed were being dicks. Now after watching more of the show, i do actually think a few of the episodes were good. The first few episodes, to me, were kind of shoddy, but it gets better. would it help if I just deleted this f**ing post?

IIRC, there were only two seasons of this show. I did watch this show when it first aired, and could barely remember the first season. My memories are coming back as I watch the DVD set. But I have no memories of the second season. But from what I've read online, there were major changes in the second season, and most say they were for the worse. I really have no idea if they'll release the second season. It wouldn't surprise me if they didn't. After all, the first season got released probably to make some extra bucks from the interest in the title related to the Tom Cruise movie.

Actually, IJWL, in a way I agree with you. I adore the characters, the basic overall storyline, and some of the plots, but the writing can be absolutely painful, and the show has a faint odor of cheese about it.

I remember seeing it first-run - it was science fiction, I *had* to see it - and it took me about half the season to start to like it. Hopefully, you can see beyond the cheese to the underlying neatness, but it may take you another disk :-) And it never hurt to remember that technology at the time was not what it is now. Watch the show for the hilariously huge mobile phones in use at the time!

Can't wait until I can actually afford to get the set...

I liked the show when it first aired and still like it now. With that being said I can understand how a younger person seeing it now (with the improvements in CGI technology since then) could be disappointed.
I recently bought season 1 and spent a whole weekend watching it and remembering. The two reasons I liked the show are 1) The Premise: Instead of the aliens taking over and humans fighting a guerilla war (like most alien invasion series) this was reversed. The humans had all the resources and the aliens had to use guerilla tactics. And 2) I am a War Of The Worlds geek. It was the first book I read as a kid and I was hooked. Besides I prefer this series to that piece of crap that Spielberg & Cruise put out this past summer.

I agree with you, some of the acting is terribly wooden, especially the lead. But no worries, I've seen worse. Ok, fans of the show can rip my head of now, I've had my say. ;)

Like any show there's good parts and bad parts. If you didn't like it, or found it disappointing, that's OK. I mean, where's it written that everyone has to agree about everything?

Actually, I don't understand this whole mentality of people thinking they are going to get bashed. I mean, read this forum before posting and you will discover that there really isn't any bashing going on. People can like or hate the show. Who cares?

If you really loved the series, buy the DVD's, don't ask how you can download the series illegally.
