Norton's jamacan acient from the pilot

ever noticed that in the pilot in the first half he speaks normal english with maybe a small wording of jamacan in it but the second half he goes all out jamacan?!?!?! then after the pilot he speaks normal english..huh??!?! so is he jamacan or what?!?!

also in the pilot, when norton offers suzsan his "special blend" coffee and he asks "You do like it black don't you?" and the look on suzsan's face and reply "yes norton I like it black" ...did anyone else crack up as the hidden joke in that scene?!!!

I noticed that as well. I'm not entirely certain what Norton's background is supposed to be. I think it's interesting that he had a clear Jamaican origin in the pilot when Philip Akin was born in Jamaica. The only think I can think is that it was something they were playing with, but dropped it when they felt it didn't work. But later episodes still lead us to believe that he may still hae a Jamaican background. They probably thought that the accent was a little too much.

It seems to me that his accent comes and goes, sometimes it is more noticable than others.

Indeed, he's loaded with cute jokes!
