To life eternal!

This is what the aliens would yell in unison just before throwing themselves into a firey abyss and committ suicide because they had failed in their particular mission. This really chilled me. Did they believe they would somehow have life after death in some sort of alien heaven or was it that the individual was meaningless compared to the larger goals of their planet's masters? Their death and oblivion was the punishment for failure.

Who really knows about that. I am sure here is some reason for what they did when they decided to kill themselves.

I always figured it was the second, since their society was very much a collective where individuality of any sort was frowned upon (to put it mildly).

The phrase showed their believe in that by putting their cause ahead of their own lives, as demonstrated by actions such as ritual suicide or going into battle, they were scorning the entirely natural fear of death and thus had risen above the concept and found a sort of immortality in their alien cause, which would continue to 'live' on long after they were dead. Or something. The fun thing about the series was that a lot was hinted at but never actually shown or explained so you could try to fill in the gaps yourself.

I like to say that phrase when I jump into traffic on my way home from work.

Little Korean is right for season 1 but in season 2 the scientist had an energy being that they worshiped as god.

Well, the horrible lack of effort regarding continuity with season 2 doesn't have much bearing on what the intent may have been in season one. They basically made little effort to make things work as they flushed away nearly all remnants of season 1 in the season 2 premiere. All that survived was a couple of familiar faces and the same character names.

I love it when the little old lady says it to little bobby in the backseat during the first season. I can't remember if the kid's name was Bobby --- but they had just taken over her body and the whole family BUT bobby is Alien. The grandma says "to life immortal, Bobby" or something like that.

I laughed til I cried.
