Official DVD

A recent (March 30. 2005) WB press release stated that "Superboy is under consideration" for an early 2007 DVD release, that seems to indicate that the rights issues have been cleared up and that we will soon see high quality, official studio release DVD's. So the days of high priced pirates are numbered. Too bad, I already bought a bunch of tapes ;)

Is the press release available anywhere online? Not that I don't believe you, but I'd like to read it for myself :P

Although waiting until 2007 for DVDs that are both professional quality and reasonably priced seems almost insufferable :\

WB can't be "considering" DVD's of the Adam West Batman series, unless they want to buy it. That show is still property of Twentieth Century Fox, and any release of that series has to be an agreement between Fox and DC Comics. Warner Home Video has nothing to do with it. WB has already established an ownership over the "Superman Family" of characters, as established by their lawsuit and subsequent victory against the Salkynds back in 1992. That is why when they released the 35th Anniversary Special Edition of Batman the Movie, it was from 20th Century Fox DVD. Superboy is by Gerard Christophers own admitance held in the hands of WB.

Well, in 1974, Both 20th Century Fox--which is owned CURRENTLY by News Corporation--and Warner Bros.--which is owned CURRENTLY, of course, by Time Warner, which also owns DC Comics--produced Irwin Allen's "The Towering Inferno" Fox distributed the film in North America with Warner Bros. distributing outside North America, in Latin America, Europe and Asia.

It's not WB it's DC comics. They are both owned by the same parent organization, but the WB home video department is completely out of it. DC doesn't want a resurgence of the "campy" Batman (although by many accounts it is what saved Batman from going under) Other studios have been able to release their own takes on DC characters. Sony, has released the DVD of Batman and Robin, the 1949 serial made by Columbia Pictures (which they now own). And if you look at the box there isn't even so mauch as the WB logo (although there is the part that says Batman us property of DC Comics, a Time-Warner company).
WB actually sued and somehow won control over the Superboy series and is last I heard hammering out the fine points of a deal with Viacom over releasing it.

I just went to his site, and while he does offer an autographed copy of the first Superboy comic book, he no longer sells the DVDs or videos. This could be a very good sign that the series may be coming out in the time stated in the press release.

It is exciting that there may actually be a DVD of the Superboy series but will it include the first season? John Haymes Newton was a great superboy and that is the DVD many of us want. Any thoughts on this?
