What was the 'Melrose Place' connection?

I noticed that both Gerard Christopher,Stacy Haiduk,Sherman Howard all made appearances on Melrose Place. And that John Newton was a member of the cast for a season. Coincidence?

No. They were all young and hot. Actually, they're still young (looking) and hot.

There was actually a Superboy reference in one episode with John Newton. He was asked if he was a Superboy or Superman.
