I loved watching Superboy when I was a kid. I remember the last time I saw it, some alien came to Earth (if I remember correctly, he claimed to be Kal-El's brother, so possibly Mon-El) and convinced Superboy to leave Earth with him. All the people of Smallville gathered around as Superboy left in a cliffhanger ending. Then I never saw another episode after that.
Was that the series finale? I always hated finales like that (same with Lois & Clark where they got a baby, but never explained how).

You're thinking of "Abandon Earth" and "Escape to Earth" a two parter from the second season. It featured former James Bond actor George Lazenby as Jor-El and ex Bond girl Britt Ekland as Lara as aliens pretending to be Superboy's Kryptonian parents and tricking him into leaving Earth for Krypton. Guess you can figure out what happens next? The series finale was season four's "Rites of Passage" parts 1&2. Superboy's powers become out of control and he must return to Smallville to find a crystal in order to control his powers again. I really wouldn't call it a finale because they left it open for a fifth season, just like Lois & Clark.
