What was the point of making 'Smallville'...
...if we had this show back then? Both shows tell the story about Clark Kent's life as a teenager.

shareSmallville tells the story of what makes him become Superman. In Superboy he's already Superman, just everyone calls him Superboy because he's younger than 30.
shareThat may have been the intention behind 'Smallville', but SV is best taken as an Elseworld type of story, and probably not what actually happened.

Every Superman incarnation could be considered an Elseworld story. Same for Batman and countless other characters with new versions of themselves.
shareAgreed, and that's how I generally view all such material.
'Batman' (1966) is as legitimate a "Batman" film as 'Batman' (1989) and 'Batman Begins', and earlier, 'Batman' (1943) and 'Batman and Robin' (1948), for instance.
Likewise, all of the various Superman projects, from the old radio serials, to the Kirk Alyn years and through George Reeves, Christopher Reeve, and Dean Cain, right up to Welling, are all "Superman" stories.
Having said that, I can still have favorites among them, and less than favorites, too.

True. No doubt about it. One thing I wish would happen is for there to be a new live-action Batman series in the spirit of the Bruce Timm/Christopher Nolan universes. Batman's been kicked in the pants compared to Superman in terms of how many live-action incarnations of Superman there have been.
I like (mostly) what Nolan is doing with his franchise, and it's similar to my own favorite take on Batman, and I'm happy to enjoy it in its own continuity.
I do not want to see this Batman in a Justice League film. No, thanks. That's a different Batman altogether.
I would love a noirish 1930's low-tech detective Kung Fu Batman live-action series, on HBO, perhaps.
I wish that 'Smallville' was more Superboy than uber dweeb.
I'd also like to see those Season 2 'Superboy' DVDs.

Cheesy as 'Superboy' is, imo it presents a much more palatable "young Superman" than 'Smallville'.

That's cool. Good to know they have plans to bring them out.

Well, the stories are lame and cheesy, but Clark is morally proactive instead of being a tag-along wuss.
