This cancellation makes me wonder...
How come Carroll O'Connor never got the hot seat for his racist remarks on "All In The Family"?

shareOr all the other celebrities on Twitter who make nasty and racist remarks? They still have their tv shows and movies. It’s so bad i hardly use Twitter anymore. It’s nonstop hate aimed at certain people. I’ve seen a few celebrities spend a few hours being racist and hateful.
Don’t get me wrong what she was disgusting and very wrong but she is not the first celebrity to do this. Wanda Sykes has even done it and she worked on Roseanne’s tv show. So I’d like to see ABC dump all their other shows too.
Total hypocrisy this world is full of!
shareYou DO understand that "All In the Family" was a PARODY of bigots, right? The show was literally making fun of bigots and promoting racial equality.
Why would it be cancelled? The show makes it obvious off the bat what its intention is.

Archie Bunker's character wasn't intended to be evil: he was intended by the non-racist writers to be an ignorant individual who didn't know any better. Granted, not all racists are like Archie Bunker but Archie was meant to be a somewhat redeemable character who was a product of his era and simply lacked the proper upbringing to know better.
Archie Bunker and Roseanne are two different entities--Archie was ignorant and frozen in his era where his racist father taught him no better. What's Roseanne's excuse?

Yes, Archie treated Edith terribly though, again--that wasn't his intention. Archie meant well by Edith. That's what was so great about that show--they conveyed bigotry well but also educated viewers on how SOME (not all, mind you) but SOME bigots are only the way they are because they simply don't know any better. Take Roseanne--she is malicious with her bigotry whereas Archie is not. Archie genuinely believes that the blood transfusion he received from a black woman will give him "black traits". That's the type of bigot he is. Roseanne, on the other hand, is not the same case.
I do agree that he would have stood up for Mr. Jerfferson. In fact--he stood up for Jefferson's son, Lionel, many times and even defended Lionel's wife who was mixed race. Jefferson had a problem with it and Archie didn't.
We also must remember that Archie's temporary latin house guest, Teresa, was worried her abusive boyfriend would seek her out. Archie defended her by punching a man he THOUGHT was her boyfriend only to find out later it was her brother. He tried to defend her despite his prejudice.
The greatest example is his relationship with Stephanie, his step-niece. Upon learning she was Jewish, Archie gave her a Star of David necklace and told her: "If you love somebody you got to love everything about them". And, despite his prejudice, he held Jewish ceremonies for her in his home and allowed her to practice.
If only all bigots could be like Archie...sadly, they're mostly like Roseanne. I've known a few Archie Bunkers in my time but I've known far more Roseanne's. Sad, but true.

Roseanne the CHARACTER isn't a bigot. Roseanne the actress is, though.
shareCarroll O'Connor was playing a role on a TV show...he acted out what was written for him to say...
Roseanne is not acting or playing a role on Twitter, she is being herself and for that she must face the music...
