Was Fred a good father?

When Fred walks out on Jackie following the whole Pete ordeal he hands over the baby and tells her where he can be reached. Eventually Dan tries to persuade him to return, telling him "this crap has gone on long enough," which has me wondering exactly how long he'd been gone. A couple of days? A week? Does it bother anyone else that Fred, so blind with anger, doesn't seem all that concerned about being reunited with his child?

Honestly, I don't agree with you. Is it ever ideal to abandon (your child) in any way, shape or form? Of course not. But Fred just felt like his wife cheated on him, on his terms.

People blow up over things like this. Look at Roseanne and how she walked out of the house and stayed out overnight, when she found out Dan only had lunch with Phyllis Zimmer! Also: Fred was aware that Jackie had a supportive base in the form of Dan and Roseanne and their kids. Logistically, their son would most likely be taken care of, however temporary this split was.
