Why did Michael O'Keefe leave?
He seemed like such a great part of the show...did he want to leave or had his storyline just played out?

shareI'd think equal parts storyline and contract ended.
He did go on to that other sitcom, which got a snide reference by Jackie, with Fred "seeing that lawyer chick with kids".
I forget the name but it was some cutesy pun like Grace on Fire had. I think it lasted two seasons? I son't think she had much of a noticeable career, but would turn up in supporting roles every now and again. I think the LiLo "Parent Trap" remake, where she was the housekeeper for Quaid?

one movie i always remember with michael o'keefe is "Too Young to Die?" with brad pitt and juliette lewis.
he was an air force guy that started dating juliette lewis and he didnt know she was young
Really? Based on this board, most people found Fred boring.
I was indifferent. Michael O'Keefe is talented though. But Fred was obviously created to be the father of Jackie's child, because Laurie was pregnant at the time in real life.
I was about to post the same thing, I'm not sure whatever happened to Fred after the divorce. Was he ever mentioned again in the later episodes?
shareYes Jackie mentioned him I think in the final season- as someone above said- that he was living with a new wife and kids - which was a reference to Michael O'Keefe's new sitcom "Life's Work", which aired right after "Roseanne" in its final season.
shareI actually liked fred
shareI was glad to see him go, but by the time he left, the damage was already done. Fred was a mistake from day 1. He didn't fit in, was a drag and really brought down the Jackie character. I understand that LM was pregnant and they needed to find a way to incorporate that into Jackie's situation, but they missed the ball with him. The show was already becoming too overstuffed with unnecessary add-on characters, he was one too many.
sharepretty sure the point with Fred was a contrast to the crazy life of the Conners.
also, her real life boyfriend had already been on the show as her abusive boyfriend Fisher and there was NO WAY his character was going to be the in-show father, as well.
Than again, in today's world, they could have made an arc about whether she should keep it since he was an abuser....hell, it was probably discussed behind the scenes.

he was in the first episode of season 7 working with Dan, even though they were divorced. It seemed forced. Then he just left.
My guess is he was just played out.

To be honest, I thought the show was already on a downward trend when he arrived. I honestly forget about him a lot of the time.
He just seemed to be there to explain Jackie's pregnancy.
But I know a lot of people liked him, I am interested in why though? What am I missing about season 6 and Fred?

Interesting, I hadn't thought of Fred in that light.
People usually cite season 7 as the one that finally did it for them, but six was when they started making Mark stupid and Jackie just neurotic, and that really bothered me. I always thought it was sweet how Becky and her Mom always fought, yet Becky made all the same choices Roseanne did. Marries very young to a biker guy that her parents hate, but learn to like as they realise that he is a good guy. By making Mark dumb, you just totally undermine that.
Also, by making jackie neurotic you justify a lot of Roseanne's domineering presence in her life. Everybody has a Jackie in their family. By making her hysterical you lose that connection.
I loved Fred too. I've said this before and I'll say it again though, when he got rid of the beard and lost his long hair, something changed about him and I didn't like it.
shareHe had a 10 o clock tee time with Ty Webb and Al Cervik
