My favorite sitcom of all time

There was just something about Roseanne that hit me close to home. I watched the show as it was on (at least the later seasons, but not every week), but it wasn't until the last handful of years where I really came to appreciate everything the show had to offer.

First and foremost, Roseanne reminded me of my mom, or at least how I remember my mom to be when I was younger, if that makes sense. The slightly crass moments to the playful banter with the kids stood out from any other mother character at the time.

Then there was the entire family element of the show. Sure, they didn't have everything, they didn't even have much, and in some time, hardly anything at all. I think that's what made Roseanne resonate with people on a real level. This was a nice bit of honesty that hasn't some since.

The last thing I'll say is how much I appreciate the dynamic of the tone throughout the seasons. You could always rely on the guttural laughs but every now and then something dramatic would take over. I know there were many moments during the series that hit home with a lot of people, but it was when Dan tossed the living room table in the later seasons that got me.

Anyway, that was a long-winded way of saying that I've always loved Roseanne, and I continue to watch it if I catch it on TV.

Very well put. I, too, think this is why Roseanne is still so popular: at its foundation, it's about a working-class family working their way through very real situations. What gets me every time is when Jackie breaks down after Fisher beat her ("He told me stop but I didn't I just kept going"). Al's death episode was the *perfect* mix of comedy and drama.
