Roseanne & Jackie & Dating

I always liked in the first couple of seasons how different Roseanne and Jackie were and how the differences in their ages and stages in life were more clearly defined. I liked that Roseanne was kinda stuck in her married life and Jackie was dating, sleeping around, and enjoying her single years. It felt like Roseanne, the person, wanted to punish Jackie for getting to do so many fun scenes while she was stuck playing the stay at home wife / mom. It's like if Roseanne had to be "boring," Jackie had to be as well so she gave up her social life and went into a weird depression about her childhood. As a viewer, I liked seeing Roseanne live vicariously through Jackie's fun and crazy outings.

Not sure that Jackie was actually enjoying the single life. She dated some real losers or messed up the relationships with some good guys.

I'm just more so referring to when she went on dates, like the date she was on when Becky ran away and went to her place. I liked when Roseanne was a wife / mother and Jackie was the younger sister making mistakes, having fun, drinking too much, and being single. Ultimately, Roseanne & Jackie became this, like, singular codependent being leading the same life - both randomly tortured by their childhood, hating their mom, etc.. Jackie used to, towards the beginning, make her own decisions and do her own thing independent of Roseanne. I liked that.

I don't know if I completely agree with this, but I get where you're coming from. Even still, it's the natural evolution of life. If Jackie had gone nine years (nine seasons) having not grown out of single woman/hot-mess mode, that wouldn't ring very true. I thought for the most part, the show did an okay job letting its characters grow naturally and effortlessly.

Anyone here mentions Hotel California dies before the first line clears his lips.
