Honeybefine brought this up on another thread.. I think there is some truth to this sometimes.. Becky never got the credit she deserved for her accomplishments, but when she screwed up.. bam... She often seemed like the outsider in her own family.. She always seemed to relate to Darlene more except with the sports thing..
At first, I thought Roseanne probably felt she was getting back at all the pretty blonde girls who wouldn't be her friend. I.e. I hate you and what you stand for sort of thing. Which might be possibly true as Becky was popular, skinny, and pretty enough. She didn't lord those things over anyone. I know people can be jealous for stupid reasons. The more I think about it, I think Becky was a mistake. I forgot what episode it was one, but in one of the earlier ones they mentioned they timeline of getting married, getting their home, and Becky's birth. Unless I'm misremembering, they weren't married nine months when Becky was born. I.e. shot gun wedding. IRL, most moms are resentful of babies born of these circumstances despite it being their own fault. Sort of like the episode of Everybody Loves Raymond when it's found out Marie hates Robert because she was pregnant and had to get married at the time. Besides that, despite Darlene having a smart mouth, she never really rebels against her mom. Becky was always one to speak her mind and have a free will. She wasn't a kiss up like everyone else. Another thing I just realized, Becky physically and personality wise favors Beverly. Where as Darlene is Roseanne, Jr. DJ is Roseanne, Jr. look and interest wise with the more calm and polite mouth of Dan. Roseanne and Becky are basically vinegar and oil.
I think Becky was born about a year or two after they married. Roseanne didn't get married while pregnant. She was already married at eighteene. Otherwise when Jackie first got pregnant Bev wouldn't have been so upset since Roseanne would have done it too. Only Nana Mary, Bev, Jackie and Darleen got pregnant before they were married.
I don't know that she resented her or disliked her more than her other kids, but she definitely took her for granted. She just always expected that she would do the right thing and help out, typical of a first child. Darlene just wasn't having any of that and was moodier than Becky so Roseanne had to play nicer with her.
What was the episode where Roseanne got on Dan because he didn't take an interest in Becky's life? Then Jackie pointed out, Roseanne treats Darlene the same way. So, it was each parent having a favorite child, Becky was Roseanne's favorite, and Darlene was Dan's. Also, Roseanne, when she was trying to bond with Darlene, after Becky wasn't living at home anymore told about all the times that she would spend with Becky at the mall. I get that, even though Darlene is more like Roseanne, she doesn't have the mother daughter bond with her, that Becky had.

They each have a mother/daughter bond, just in different ways. Roseanne doesn't like sports, Darlene doesn't like girly stuff, but I think they had a real bond, I always think of Roseanne's speech to Darlene when she gets her period, powerful mother/daughter moment.
