Ages of characters

Yesterday I was watching the Roseanne marathon on the Logo channel. Did you know that when Jackie was dating Gary, Jackie was 33 and Roseanne was 36?! They seem so much older!!! I'm 36 and feel like I'm nothing like them. Of course I don't have 3 kids on the verge of poverty either!

Yeah, it's crazy. But I'm sure many of us have thought about this occasionally. I'll chalk it up to this: generations. Each generation is different. Like, the current crop of 18-35 year olds certainly haven't "matured" at the same rate as previous generations, but it's not entirely our fault. There's other factors like the economy, job market, cost of living, etc... ;) And perhaps most significantly: lifestyle. We have so many more options these days—for better or worse, lol.

I know, it's weird. Today is my 32nd birthday, so I'm like the same age as Jackie in the first or second season. And she still just seems so much older than me!

reply

Well, Happy Happy Birthday to you. Hope it was a good one.

reply

Thank you! :)

Happy Birthday, ilovejnames.

It's like watching full house. In the first season, Jesse was 22. 22 year olds don't look like that anymore and John Stamos himself was also 22. Danny turned 30 in one of the early seasons. He seemed so much older.

AHHHHH! That was scary!

What?! Totally would have guessed John Stamos/Uncle Jesse was around 28 when the show started.

Right???

reply

My bad, he was actually 24. But still. I'm 27.

AHHHHH! That was scary!

Jesse Cochran was not 22 when Full House started, he was 24.

Stamos and his character Cochran were the same age.

reply

I responded that Katsopolis and Stamos were 24. I said I had made an error.

AHHHHH! That was scary!

reply

In season 1 he was Cochran, not Katopolis.

reply

I know that. But from then on he was Katsopolis.

AHHHHH! That was scary!

That reminds me of the episode where Danny was dating that college girl and she thought he was in his late 20s. That was at the tail end of season 4. Even when Danny really was in his late 20s, he looked like he was pushing 40!

Who?

I was actually just thinking about this the other day. Wasn't Fisher supposed to be 25, or did I make that up at some point? I'm 25 right now and there's no way I see myself in the same age group as Fisher at the time lol.

When I first started watching Roseanne seriously, I was like 16 or 17, the age Darlene is when Bev thinks Fisher is her boyfriend. I thought he looked like 35. No 17 year old would mistake him for 18-22 (high school senior/college age). Yes, he was like 25 on the show but everyone thought he looked like a minor or young adult. :/

reply

^ I agree w/ you on that! Fisher did NOT look like he was even in his early 20s, let alone a teenager. Give me a break. He looked like was at least 28, even in his early 30s to me.

-The actor was actually 28 at the time (born in 1964).

Just like how when you're in 4th grade, you look at 7th graders like they're SO grown-up and mature, and then when you're in 7th grade you don't feel that different?

reply

They had a more mature look and attitude.
