What this show on a massively LOW budget???

This is perhaps the cheapest looking shows I've ever see. The cinematography is so grainy it's kind of a distraction. I don't know if this was intentional but I didn't like it. Still a good show though, I just wish it didn't like it was filmed on some one's home video camera.

let me guess, you watch on a 4d hi-tech TV?
This was filmed in the 80s when BetaMax tapes were still available to buy at retail, and LASER DISCS were "hi tech"!

Try watching MeTV or TVLand for even worse film stock footage.

I get that it was filmed in the 1980s but shows during that time and even before that by decades had better quality than this show. I never understood why this show was designed to look so blurry. And my television is not that high definition to suggest it's that making the show look so cheap as again, the shows made before Roseanne and in the same time period look better on it so it's the issue of whatever film cameras they used for this show.

Get a better TV. It looks good in HD and just as good as anything else done at that time.

This show was produced by Marcy Carsey and Tom Werner, who were gagillionaires by the time Roseanne came on air, thanks to the wild success of their other little show called "The Cosby Show".

Although I do think the first season looks dated (i.e. '80s), part of it was probably intentional—they wanted to capture a working class family with no glitz. But if you look at the show as it progressed, particularly by Season 4 onward, the show is incredibly crisp and still quite high-quality, visually, today!

It's amazing how it still holds up in that sense.
