Do you think the Conners would have voted for Trump?

I am not trying to get into any sort of political debate but The Conners seem to fit into the demographic that helped Trump win (White Blue Collar from The Rust Belt.) On one side Roseanne seemed rather liberal when it came to social issues such as abortion, gay rights, and feminism but at the same time I could see her not liking Hillary Clinton. Your thoughts?

reply

There is nothing wrong with debating. The Conner's struck me as Democrats but this past election was extremely complicated with both candidates having serious flaws. I don't know that the Conner's would have voted my predicted party line of Democrat or have been one of the one's that figured they wanted to be rid of establishment politicians. Taking a guess Dan might have voted for Trump and Roseanne voted for HRC. Jackie would have stayed at home and avoided the whole thing. I think Becky would have voted HRC and Darlene would have boycotted the election because Sanders got rear ended by the DNC.

reply

I could see that too. I could see Dan and Bev voting for Trump while I could see Roseanne, Becky, and Jackie voting for Hillary. Darlene if she indeed did vote would have either pulled the lever for Jill Stein or would have written in Bernie.

reply

Roseanne definitely would not have voted for Trump

reply

IDK if true, but I read something that said Roseanne actually DID vote Trump in November, which I found shocking.

I can't see the Conners getting excited over any candidate, knowing the deck is completely stacked against the working man, which people today don't seem to understand. How many times will the "I'm a NEW type of candidate" Schtick work? Maybe always.

Regardless of what people say, "None ofThe Above" is a legitimate stance. Or just abstaining.

I heard she was pro-Drumpf, too, but then she had a couple anti-Drumpf tweets right before the election?

I don't think Roseanne voted for either candidate this election. At least according to a September article I read. I found nothing about her vote in November. The most she said, which got misconstrued, is that she believed Trump was saying extreme things in order to wake people up, whereas Hillary was being boring and putting them to sleep. Kinda true. Hillary's campaign wasn't as "exciting" in its promises. Just "more of the same" stuff from the previous administration. "Change" is always a good buzzword people buy into.

reply

Then 8 or even 4 years later the "Change" buzz word will come back into play.

reply

I was watching an episode of Cheers when Woody ran for office. Frasier told him to just say the word "change" a lot. I guess the only thing that doesn't change are what voters are suckers for!

reply

Fan would go Trump. Roseanne would go Hillary and Darlene would be all for Bernie

reply

Roseanne would definitely not have voted Trump. Even if he was appealing to her more than Hilary Clinton was, once she got wind of the "I can grab women by the pussy because I'm rich" comments, she definitely would drop support for him if she had any to begin with.

That Roseambo episode was on Laff the other day, which featured "Hilary Clinton" (actually career Hilary impersonator, not the real thing), and Roseanne was stoked to meet her. Of course Roseanne's political opinions could well have changed in the 20 years between that episode that didn't really happen and now.

The 2016 election debate would've been REALLY GREAT for one of Dan's poker game discussions.

Bob (the big guy who worked at the city shop with Dan and the others) would say something like "Well that Trump guy seems to be really looking out for the working man!" Chuck would be all "Oh yeah, that guy who had to work from the ground up with only a small million dollar loan sure knows what it's like to be one of us hardworking schmucks!" Leon would make a comment about Hilary's pantsuits. Dan would say something awkward and everyone would glare at him and then he'd try to get the discussion to something less divisive, like pretzels.

reply

"Bob" = John McConnell, a Louisiana-based character actor and (former?) theatre troupe manager.

Aside from Roseanne, his main credits include Coen pics like Miller's Crossing and O Brother ("Stay outta the Woolworth's!" was a meme for a bit) and did "Year Without Santa" with John back in 2006. I think he also had a bit part in In the Electric Mist, which was screened in one Louisiana theatre near where it was shot, then released on dvd. it also starred John with Tommy Lee Jones and Peter Sarsgard. It was a pretty good flick, not sure why it got D2V'd?

Someone asked this last fall, before the election. It quickly fell apart and OP had a hissy fit.

Roseanne, herself, you may remember, campaigned for the 2012 Green Party nomination, but lost it to Jill Stein, so she went to another party and managed to do quite well, considering she wasn't on a majority of ballots. This campaign was recently released as the documentary "Roseanne for President" and the FB page is still running.

as for the characters, outspoken Roseanne and Darlene would but heads arguing over Hillary, Bernie, and Jill. they would tear Drumpf to pieces, seeing through his BS.

Roseanne: could be a last second coin flip between HRC and Bernie. reluctantly votes her.

Dan: would say he's voting for whoever Roseanne tells him too, but I think he'd go for HRC, "the devil we know", seeing how badly Drumpf acts.

Jackie: Jill Stein, doesn't trust either HRC or DT

Darlene: Bernie or Bust, even if she knows HRC would be the better option against DT.
David: Bernie, because Darlene said so.

Becky1: Hillary
Becky2: Drumpf
DJ: assuming we're talking current ages in 2016...??? Bernie?

Leon: Lanford's Hillary Campaign manager
Scott: Hillary
Bev: Drumpf
Nancy: Jill
Bob: Drumpf
Chuck: either HRC or Bernie
Anne-Marie: Hillary

Andy MIGHT be old enough to vote this past year, but I don't think Jerry would be?
