Ziggy!!!!

I've been re-watching the whole series from the 1st season on the Android box... I have to say that I had forgot about Dan & Roseanne's old friend Ziggy (season 3). It seemed at first, that maybe Ziggy's character was going to be permanent thing - Opening the bike shop with Dan....the way he asked Jackie if he could be her roommate, and her agreeing and discussing him splitting the bills and rent if he was staying...
I really loved his character... it's a shame he didn't stay around longer... I just had the feeling that maybe originally, he was supposed to me more of a re-occurring/permanent figure. it's too bad it didn't turn out that way...

I liked Ziggy and wish he'd stayed around longer. The actor cracks me up. He would have been a good long term addition to the cast. Certainly better than Arnie as a recurring character.

I liked Ziggy too, especially his interactions with Darlene.

But I don't know that I would have liked him as a recurring character time after time.
He was more humorous because he was novel, I felt.

Arnie gets a lot of flak but I liked his character. I could have done without Arnold's drug-induced hopping from side to side lol, but eh!

I compare Ziggy to Bev - great in small doses but very very annoying on a weekly basis.

I think Crystal, Mark, and Leon were the best supporting characters. Nancy, Arnie, David, and Bev were the worst.

Ziggy later admitted that they were Jill's kids. He was not the biological father.

Then that was just some sloppy writing by the show's writers. Because Ziggy clearly says when he first visits the Conners, that 'he checked both his babies at birth, they're boys.'

I also guess we're supposed to ignore the fact that Ziggy seems to have left his two sons, biological or not, to start a business with Dan!

Right. He was a nice guy who also happened to be a flake.

I'd like to add Bonnie to the mix of the best supporting characters, and to a lesser extent, Ann Marie. I really liked the show when Roseanne was hanging out with them. I'd also like to give a nod to Molly. She was fun against Darlene.

Maybe I'm the only one who thought Arnie was funny. But I agree about Nancy, David, and Bev. Mark was neither here nor there for me. Liked him when he worked with Dan at his bike shop, then they made him too stupid.

reply

I too thought Arnie was funny. It's still one of my favorite scenes when they're all playing poker, and they find out that Leon is gay. So Arnie says something like "forget about Melanie Griffith, let's say Andy Griffith hits on you..." I love that. lol
And I didn't mind Ziggy. I did like Bonnie and Ann Marie.

molly was so hot....mmmmm

It would've gone against Ziggy's nature to make him a permanent fixture. He was a capricious figure, after all. Someone who did something till he "got bored", then moved on. That being said, I enjoy his presence a great deal. Of all of Dan's friends, Ziggy was the one who was most like him. It was nice to see them pal around.

Jay Sanders actually worked with John later on, on a western called The Jack Bull. It stars John Cusack, whose father wrote it, and it premiered right before he died. I think Jay was a cattle rustler, while Boss was a judge, Cusack the local law trying to keep the peace?

it's been a while since I bought the dvd. need to rewatch it some time.....

A little Ziggy goes a long way; I was glad they didn't make him a permanent fixture.

Having said that, more Ziggy and less Arnie (as others have mentioned) would have been more than welcome.

Anyone here mentions Hotel California dies before the first line clears his lips.

I liked Ziggy a lot. For those of you who were annoyed by him or preferred him in smaller doses, remember what his purpose was on the show: to snap Dan and Roseanne out of their funk and bring a little excitement and fun into their boring lives. I'm sure if he was made a regular he would've calmed down. I personally wish him and Booker had stayed around longer.

reply

I agree it felt like they were going to have him be a reoccurring character throughout the series at first. I wouldn't have minded if he popped up once or twice every season.
