Norm MacDonald
Has Norm ever talked at length about his time spent writing for the show? I'd love to hear his POV.

I saw a Youtube clip of a recent interview with him, talking a bit about the show. He seemed to have positive things to say about the show and Roseanne herself. I think he just said that she wanted to find real comedians and not just off-the-assembly line TV writers, because she wanted to keep it fresh on her show.
shareWas he on the show when Queen Sheba had started referring to the writers and crew members by numbers and not their names? And did she ever apologize for that? She probably got away with it because of all the power and authority she had at the time. And that sucks.
shareHe was credited with Season 5's "Winnebago..." episode, so I think he was there either during or AFTER the whole "numbering writers" fiasco (which reeks of pretension, by the way—clearly a 'I'm a diva!' move!).
I recall the numbering technique occurred pre-season 6/around Season 4 onward, right? No later than Season 6, at least.
He seems so talented. I can't believe his career didn't go further. Compared to his SNL castmates,
shareWell, he did get canned from SNL by NBC for one too many OJ jokes and was nearly black-listed in the years that followed.
I also think Norm just isn't the kind of guy to "play the game" and as a result, his career has suffered.

It seems he get fired a lot. He was fired/replace by Family Guy and and KFC. He probably doesn't know how to play the game. It seems weird Sandler does all these movies with everyone else he was on SNL with but never offers Norm a role. Still a fan, though. Of Norm, not Sandler.
shareNorm getting fired from Family guy was blessing in disguise. Family Guy is the most retarded show and Seth Macfagland is a smug little douche of a man.
shareSo THAT's why he was fired from SNL. I remember this now. Don Ohlmeyer, then-West Coast NBC president, was a good friend of OJ's (I cant imagine why) and got butthurt about Norm's jokes about his pal and got him fired. And then he stated flatout that Norm "wasn't funny". And then Norm came back to host SNL a year later and sarcastically stated how badly the show was doing. Heh. But does anyone remember Norm's anti-SNL comments at the 25th Anniversary special? He showed up in the segment with most of the past Weekend Update hosts and remarked how he was going to a party at Eddie Murphy's house, where they were "making fun of the show". Well, it was actually David Spade's "Hey look everybody, a falling star" comment that made Murphy hate SNL in the mid 90's, it was nothing Norm did or said. Anyway, Norm went on to do a sitcom on ABC that was never any good, and 1998's "Dirty Work" bombed pretty badly as I recall. And recently, yes, he was fired from playing Col. Sanders, and he has had a recurring part on The Middle as Mike's sad sack brother. I dont really dislike Norm per se, he has been funny in the past, but he is not one of my favorites either. But I did like his Bob Dole, I have to admit that. And remember when he did a scathingly nasty David Letterman? THAT was something else. Norm portayed Dave as a incomprehensible crazy person as I recall. And then in the last decade Norm would appear on Letterman and apparently all had been forgiven. Because it was Norm's bosses at NBC who made him do that, it wasn't his fault. And Dave understood that and didnt hold a grudge. That was good!
shareNorm just marches to the beat of his own drum. He doesn't strike me as the type to lay down for someone or compromise, and as a result, his career has suffered. I definitely respect the hell out of the guy. And his comments about Roseanne and the show in general have charmed me even further on him.
His appearances on Late Night w/ Conan O'Brien are worth looking up on the YouTubes if you're interested.

And you know what other jokes he told all the time in his WU monologues that some people got tired of? Prison rape jokes. Classy. Even David Spade got sick of them and told Norm that to his face at one point, LOL.
