Poirot is such a homophobe!

Or phobie de fagg0t as they say in Belgium. ;)

reply

It's set in the mid-30s. At the time, it was believed to be a mental illness

reply

There is no homosexuality in the Poirot novels, and Poirot never says anything about it. Why they have chosen to drag it into the TV epIsodes I don't know.

reply

The OP is joking, or trying to.

When presented with a dinner made by Japp, Poirot explains to Japp he can't eat his fagg0ts becuase he has "phobie de faggỌt".

faggỌt of course referring to the British food made from cheap meat cuts, not the offensive term for homosexuals.

But the translation is phobia of FaggỌts = homo phobia.

So as not to hurt Japp's feeling, what Poirot is actually saying is that he has an 'allergy' to FaggỌts... the meat, not gays.

Yes, i explain that above.

oh, I see. thank you. *beep* is not in common usage here in the UK as a term for homosexuals, so I didn't think of that.

reply

Yeah, fag has been known as cigarrette in UK. Only recently the American meaning began to creeps into local colloquil.

Thank you for that, that was just one that my spouse n I were trying to figure out the meaning of last nite. LOL

reply

And in New Zealand a fag is slang for cigarette..

reply

same here

In the 1930s, most everyone except homosexuals was a homophobe. They weren't worrying about being judged through 21st century eyes. Besides, Poirot isn't even referring to homosexuals.
