How do you feel about the new cast?

I have the hots for Felicia Day so that's going to be weird with her as the villain. I've never seen her act tough or evil. She usually acts childish in what I have seen.

The new host seems funny based on a video I found on YouTube.

My biggest gripe is the robots have new voices and I think so much of the characters was their voice, being puppets.

I'd almost prefer new robots to poor imitation.

I don't see how Crow and Servo could even participate in this. Joel built them himself, and I doubt he left some blueprints laying around, so they couldn't be copies. At the end of the series, the SOL was destroyed, Gypsy became a millionaire business owner, while Crow and Servo moved in with Mike in his basement level apartment. Unless the new series is a parallel dimension thing, I see no reason for the bots to be back.

Felicia Day did have a Dark Side moment when she played an evil version of her character Charlie on Supernatural. It was in the season 10 episode 'There's No Place Like Home'.

I'm a bit apprehensive about whether she's supposed to be the daughter of Dr F. Forrester wasn't someone you actually thought could get a piece of ass, considering his obsession with bad movies and dangerous yet goofy inventions.

Come to think of it. How did Joel eat and breath?

reply

Yep. It all falls into the category of 'It's just a show. I should just relax'. Besides...thinking hurts.
I just wonder if it will be like Saturday Night Live was after the original cast left.

Suggestion, just relax.

Hope is never a bad thing, but I'm getting somewhat of a Phantom Menace vibe from this reboot.

"Something we love is being brought back by it's creator! He made it, so he'll know exactly what to do with it. Sure, it's 15 years later and none of the original cast and crew will be involved, but he's expanding the universe and bringing back the puppets! What could go wrong?"

BTW, I think it's a real safe bet that a wacky new robot will be introduced for the host segments. Now, granted, it will probably not have racist overtones, but I think a new character "For The Kids" is pretty much a guarantee.

Wait and see, I suppose.

Where will it be hosted? Netflix? Cable? Some online service I don't care about?

reply

Definitely not cable. After the crap they had to deal with on Comedy Central and Sci-Fi, Joel will avoid it like the plague.
My best guesses are Netflix or some On Demand thing.
Maybe a joint venture with Shout Factory. Stream the episodes on Shout Factory TV, then Shout Factory makes the dvd/blu ray box set or something.

reply

No where? I don't suppose there is any guarantee anyone will take the show.

reply

Put it this way..people donated a lot of $$$ just for the chance that the show could be made. With the majority of the funds coming from fans and other investors, they won't have to deal with studios interfering. Joel will finally have 100% creative control over things.
Again, I see no chance of it appearing on tv. Hollywood is too busy making the next big thing that no one gives a rat's ass about.

Shout Factory would be an obvious choice. They worked with Joel and brought back Turkey Day..online. Shout Factory has the dvd/bluray license to distribute MST3K, and Shout Factory is well known as a home for cult tv and movies, creating quality releases that any fan will love.

My biggest complaint is the L.A. location and crew. The one thing they all agreed would ruin the feel of the show back in the original run, and Joel is doing it now. 

I also agree about the need for new bots. Crow and Tom had their run. They are living happily with Mike on Earth and I think we need a change of designs for the bots.

There actually is one of the old gang who will be coming back to the show, but not an on-camera contribution. Paul Chaplain has signed on to be one of the writers.

Thanks for the info, heep. Can't wait until June 28.

I liked Felicia on Guild (not so much not that her schtick is professional female geek) but she's not right as the heavy. I think the guys are all older now and not in touch with pop culture, and just decided to cast her because she's familiar. "The kids like the Kardashians, let's get on of them as the host, is that possible? What about Dick Harambe, I've seen something about him on my daughter's facebook page."

reply

I think the new cast is going to be just fine. Let's face it, it was TIME for a new cast. Sure, the old cast was getting the job done, but it was time to replace it. It was a clean break and no bones penetrating the skin, so a new cast isn't that big of a deal.
